Wildfire coming to Germany

According to news on the websites quotenmeter.de and tvwunschliste.de the German tv station VOX plans to start airing Wildfire this fall or winter. The show could start airing as early as September.

Dubbing for the show has started last week, according to the dubbing company Bavaria Film 54 episodes, that means all 4 seasons, will be dubbed.

ABC's 'Wildfire' returning to NM for fourth season

ABC Family's television series "Wildfire" will film a fourth season in New Mexico in 2007, state officials says.

The series, produced by Lionsgate Entertainment, is one of ABC Family's highest rated original series. It began filming in New Mexico in 2004, and has taken advantage of both the state's tax rebate film incentive and the state's interest-free production loan program, which gives loans to productions in exchange for giving the state a portion of the profits generated.

Lionsgate (NYSE: LGF) has filmed many movies in New Mexico, including the recent release "Employee of the Month," starring Jessica Simpson, and a new series called "The Lost Door" for the SciFi Channel. The Canadian film company also plans to build a studio in Rio Rancho.

Filming for the new television series season will start Jan. 16 in and around Rio Rancho, Algodones and Albuquerque, and is expected to conclude in May.

ABC Family Fans 'Wildfire' - Greenlights Fourth Season of Drama

ABC Family is giving "Wildfire" an early boost of confidence, greenlighting a 13-episode fourth season months before season three debuts.

Cabler also has ordered production on series pilot "Greek," a college comedy from "Wildfire" producers Lloyd Segan and Shawn Piller.

Lensing on the fourth season of the Lionsgate TV-produced "Wildfire" will begin in January for a fall debut. Upcoming third season will premiere Jan. 1 at 8 p.m.

Sean Smith ("Summerland") will pen the script for "Greek," which revolves around the misadventures of college-aged siblings -- a geeky brother and his super-social older sister -- in the Greek fraternity/sorority system at a fictional university.

Gil Junger is aboard to direct the pilot. Blueprint Entertainment will produce.

Blueprint also is producing a second one-hour pilot for ABC Family, the mother-daughter drama "Nobody" from scribe Kevin Murphy, which was greenlit to production last month (Daily Variety, Oct. 20).

ABC Family president Paul Lee said the college setting is a "very natural place for us to go," since the net targets a young-adult 18-34 demo.

"Greek" is both "funny and dramatic, and sort of a nice companion show to 'Wildfire,' " a more serious primetime sudser centered on young people, Lee said.

Early renewal for "Wildfire," about a girl who works on a family-run horse ranch, is the result of two successful cycles on ABC Family. Pickup also works toward the network's goal of a lineup of original programming year-round.

Cabler's push to go year-round will kick off in earnest next month with the net's "25 Days of Christmas" programming event, which will lead into the third-season launch of "Wildfire." That will be followed by the bow of frosh inner-city cop drama "Lincoln Heights," which was ordered to series a year ago (Daily Variety, Oct. 24, 2005), and the second-season preem of "Kyle XY" in the summer. Fourth season of "Wildfire" and a new drama will roll out during the fall and winter months.

In addition, ABC Family will offer a sneak peak of the new season of "Wildfire" on the network's Web site beginning Dec. 1.

Piller, Segan and Remi Aubuchon exec produce. Show stars Genevieve Cortese, Ryan Sypek, Micah Alberti, Nicole Tubiola, Nana Visitor, Greg Serano and James Read.

Piller/Segan signed an overall first-look development deal with Lionsgate earlier this year (Daily Variety, July 26). Duo also produce USA Network's "The Dead Zone," which received a sixth season pickup in September.

Q: I miss ``Wildfire.'' Have I missed a new season, or is it gone forever? I haven't even found reruns.

A: I get a lot of questions about this drama, which airs on ABC Family. It has completed its second season and was renewed for a third, to air in spring 2007.

But confusion by you and other viewers is understandable. Cable shows like Wildfire and TNT's The Closer do about 13 episodes per season, fewer than what hits on the major broadcast networks present, so they take much longer between-season breaks.

The first season also has been released on DVD.

It's a (Wildfire) dream come true: Chicago girl gets birthday wish to meet TV cast

What does a girl want for her 17th birthday? For Angela Paparo, it was to travel from her home near Chicago to visit Rio Rancho just to meet the cast of "Wildfire."

Although her family doesn't entirely share her love of the ABC Family show - her father, Tony, has seen a few episodes, and not enough stuff blows up for her brother Anthony, 15 - the quartet, including mom Gloria, planned their family vacation around Rio Rancho and the hit cable show.

With a little help from Convention and Visitors Bureau director Judi Snow, Angela Paparo, whose birthday was about a month earlier, got her wish Thursday, starting with a tour of the indoor "Wildfire" sets housed at the Fulcrum Building in northern Rio Rancho.

Although the "rooms" at the set were incomplete, and the facades for those rooms were built miles away, Angela, who has seen every episode, said she recognized many of them. She was also introduced to some new or expanded sets that will be used for the third season, on which the cast and crew recently began filming.

The second leg of the tour took the family to the set in Algodones, where the cast and crew film the outdoor shots. It was there that Angela not only met the show's stars but where she learned how hospitable they are.

The show's star, Genevieve Cortese, who plays Kris Furillo, was one of the first to greet the family, and the most enthusiastic. Cortese bounded over and threw her arms around the birthday girl. After expressing her disbelief that anyone would travel that far to see them, Cortese cleared off her seat, the fabric folding chair with her name stitched into it, and offered it to Angela.

"This is your seat for the day," she said.

But Angela did not keep that seat for long, as Greg Serano, who plays Pablo Betart, swept her up for a tour. First, Serano used the family's camera to narrate a video tour, whispering into the camera to describe what was going on at the set. Later, he put Angela and Tony Paparo into a golf cart and, kicking up dust along the way, gave them the "studio tour."

Paparo also got an autographed photo from the show's stars and a signed copy of the script.

"They beat everybody as far as being hospitable and welcoming," Snow said.

And although Snow said this was a one-time event and that she would not be taking others on another tour of Wildfire, she did admit she enjoyed herself.

While the Paparos were in New Mexico, they also visited Carlsbad Caverns, Roswell, Los Alamos and Albuquerque's Old Town. They said they would likely take the tram to Sandia Peak that night. None of them realized there was so much to do in New Mexico and only learned that thanks to "Wildfire."

"I would have never thought of coming here otherwise," Mr. Paparo said.

Snow said that's the idea right now, to center visitors' New Mexico vacations in Rio Rancho, but she looks forward to the day that Rio Rancho is enough for vacationers.

"Right now we're kind of a hub and spoke destination," she said. "Eventually, they won't want to go anywhere else."

The city's only attractions currently are the J & R Vintage Auto Museum and, of course, "Wildfire."

"Currently, what we are focusing on is our antique car museum and the location and the affordability and the hospitality," she said.

But when Snow looks toward the future, often the near future, she sees the opening of the Santa Ana Star Center, and the Lionsgate studio, which could keep people within Rio Rancho for their vacations.

But in Snow's mission to make Rio Rancho a vacation destination, the Paparos, and families like them, are the first step.

My ethnic background is not something I tell people very much anymore, confesses Nicole Tubiola. The star of the ABC Family series Wildfire says some of that is due to her multi-ethnicity. But she is more concerned that discussion of her background might limit her acting roles and opportunities.

“I don’t want to tell people I’m one thing and then have them see me as only that,” she says. While Tubiola does not deny her Korean roots — or her white or Italian ones, for that matter — she stresses: “I’m an actress. There are many different roles I am able to play. As soon as I say I am one thing and not another, it closes doors for me.”

Fortunately, Tubiola’s racial makeup opened doors on the set of Wildfire. Tracing the lives of a group of young people on a horse ranch in the American Southwest, Wildfire cast non-whites in several key roles.

Originally, Tubiola auditioned for the role of Kris, specifically written as a Latina character. Tubiola’s exotic beauty and dark complexion seemed ideal for the part. But when Genevieve Cortese was cast, producers offered Tubiola the role of Danielle “Danny” Davis. “I think they thought [Danny] would be the blond rich girl,” says Tubiola. “But as the casting process continued, it turned into something else.”

And as Tubiola’s character grew during the second season, so did the program’s audience. “During season one, Danny was manipulative and would stop at nothing to get her man at any cost,” Tubiola remembers. “In our second season, you see the reasons behind that so she isn’t such a one-dimensional villainess.”

But her character remains ethnically mysterious. Danny is written as “an everyday American,” which hits home for Tubiola. She suspects that, like many younger generations of Asians and Asian-blends born and raised in the United States, she finds it hard to identify with a particular ancestry.

“My family is not overly tied to any particular part of our ethnic background,” admits Tubiola, whose father is half Italian and mother is half Korean. “My parents were not born in those countries, so we spoke English in our home.”

“You want to have those roots. You want to have those ties, but it’s not really a huge part of my life,” confesses Tubiola. “I’m sorry to say that on one level, because I know it’s really important to other people, but it’s never been something I was raised with.”

One thing she did grow up with was a love for performing. “My mom says she knew from the time I was two, I’d be an actress,” she says. “I have never wanted to do anything else.”

Tubiola could “barely wait” to turn 18 and leave Bullhead City, Ariz., for Los Angeles. Soon, she got her television start playing a cheerleader on Saturday morning children’s program Hang Time.

Since then, she has appeared on The Steve Harvey Show, Boston Public and The District. Like so many of Tubiola’s roles, Wildfire’s Danny is defined by wealth, not ethnic background. “Most of the roles I’m cast in tend to be ‘rich girls,’” she notes, “and that’s not ethnic-specific.”

Also starring on the show is Tubiola’s husband, Kieran Hutchinson, previously of WB’s hit One Tree Hill. Both share on-screen romances with other characters — and routinely watch one another kiss other actors. Tubiola says it never presents a problem for their personal lives.

“Filming loves scenes is not sexy or romantic,” she shares. “It’s not a difficult thing. It’s our job. I don’t think kissing another actor on a show, in front of 80 cast and crew members, is going to weaken our bond!”

Tubiola says it would be great to do other work, but the show’s choppy filming schedule so far prevents that. Of the roles she would enjoy tackling, race and ethnicity seldom come into play.

“Actors portray human issues,” Tubiola points out. “You can be jealous of somebody no matter what your ethnicity. You can love somebody no matter what your race is. Actors portray life.”

“Of course, certain stories require somebody of a particular ethnicity,” she admits. “But in general, I feel roles should be colorblind. People seem to think that just because you have brown skin, there are certain emotions you cannot understand or portray, and that’s not true.”

ABC Family Star Assaulted Wife, Police Say

Greg Serano, one of the stars of the ABC Family show "Wildfire," is accused of assaulting his wife, Carmen, and her 15-year-old son during a dispute at the family's home in New Mexico.

Greg Serano faces two counts of battery against a household member, false imprisonment and obstructing an officer, according to a Rio Rancho police report.

Police responded to a domestic dispute call at the couple's home shortly after midnight on July 10, according to the police report. Greg Serano arrived home "very intoxicated" and began to argue with her after she called him a "moron," according to Carmen Serano's witness statement taken by police.

The statement goes on to say that Carmen punched Greg near his left eye after he grabbed her and would not allow her to leave a bedroom. He began to bleed from the punch and proceeded to smear blood from his eye area all over her face, her statement and the police report said.

According her 15-year-old son's witness statement, the son saw the blood on Carmen's face and thought that Greg had hit her. He then jumped on Greg's back -- and was thrown off and pushed onto a bed by Greg, according to the police report.

It was the 15-year-old son that called 911.

An arrest warrant was issued for Serano that night and he was arrested by Rio Rancho police on July 13.

Carmen Serano, through her publicist, released this statement to TMZ: "I want everyone to know that my husband and I are working through our marital issues through counseling, and the support of our friends and family. Greg and I are extremely committed to one another. We've had a good marriage for nine years and we will get through this together. We both love our fans and hope they will support us through this difficult time."

The new recurring character took off from the ol' homestead to become a globe-trotting photographer, according to sources familiar with the script, and is described as a "fun-loving devil."

'Wildfire' rides into Webisodes

ABC Family has greenlit a series of Internet-exclusive episodes that will serve as a prequel to its top-rated original series "Wildfire."

Lionsgate and Piller/Segan will produce the Webisodes, which will be available on ABCFamily.com this fall. Story will center on the earlier dysfunctional days of Kris Furillo, played by Genevieve Cortese, before she joins the foster family that introduces her to the world of thoroughbred racing.

Project is part of a larger online initiative that the network announced in earlier this year (Daily Variety, April 12). This summer ABC Family will relaunch its Web site, which will include a broadband player, a space for social networking, an interactive gaming area and downloadable content.

Both seasons of "Wildfire" are available on iTunes and on DVD. Production on the third season begins in July.

Sports Advisory Council names final 3 Athletes of Month

The Rio Rancho Sports Advisory Council rounded out its "fiscal year" by selecting an Athlete of the Month for March, April and May.

The latest three winners - the SAC did not hold a meeting in April, thus the catching up - will be eligible for Athlete of the Year honors. Last year, then-RRHS senior Chris Williams was named Athlete of the Year, the first for the SAC.

The latest trio of athletes selected Wednesday were:

Rio Rancho High School junior golfer Tim Madigan (March): It would have been hard to start the golf season with a better swing, as Madigan carded rounds of 72, 71 and 70 in earning medalist honors in the Rams' first three tournaments of the year, and the Rams went on to win all five of their tournaments in March.

Rio Rancho High School senior pitcher Brittany Vargas (April) used her arm and her bat to help her team contend for a District 1-5A championship. After being named the MVP of the annual Kristin Griego Memorial Tournament at Eagle Ridge, Vargas went on to lead the Rams to a second-place finish in district as the Rams went 5-4 in 1-5A contests, all played in April. Rio Rancho High School sophomore Nicole Zarrella (May) showed early she was a force to be reckoned with in the discus, placing first in four of five track and field meets in April before winning the District 1-5A crown with a toss of 115 feet, 10 inches, one week before becoming the only Rams girl to win a state title with a heave of 120-6.

The Athlete of the Year will be announced at the group's annual banquet on June 3, the day of the annual Celebrity Bowlathon.

This year's bowlathon, which is an opportunity for area bowlers to team up with celebrities and sports stars, will be held June 3 at Tenpins & More, starting at 10 a.m.

Among the field of "celebs" that Saturday are former NFL players Vince Warren, a one-time Eldorado High School standout; Steve Holden, Cephus Weatherspoon, Edwin Weatherspoon, Leroy Irvin, Preston Dennard and Sam Scarber, a former University of New Mexico running back who saw time with the San Diego Chargers.

Also in the celebrity field are former Detroit Pistons forward Terry Tyler, former Lobos cager Lewis Lamar, and actor Greg Serrano, along with his wife, model Carmen Serrano. Greg Serrano is one of the stars of the ABC Family Channel's series "Wildfire," which has been filming its first three seasons in Rio Rancho and other locations in Sandoval County.

Production Of 13 One-Hour Episodes To Begin This Summer

ABC Family has picked up a third season of the original drama series, WILDFIRE, it was announced today by Paul Lee, president, ABC Family. A total of 13 one-hour episodes will be produced for the third season order with production set to begin this summer in New Mexico. The drama, produced by Lionsgate (NYSE and TSX:LGF), the leading independent filmed entertainment studio, in association with Piller² and The Segan Company, is set in the world of horse racing and centers on the struggles of a young woman (played by Genevieve Cortese) to turn her life around. The series also stars, Greg Serano (“Kingpin”), Nana Visitor (“Star Trek: Deep Space Nine”), Micah Alberti ("All My Children"), Andrew Hoeft, James Read, Ryan Sypek and Nicole Tubiola.

"We are thrilled to be renewing WILDFIRE," said Lee. "The show has done tremendously well for us, drawing in key demos and establishing ABC Family as a home for quality dramas."

“We’ve been blessed with an outstanding cast and wonderful creative partners in Piller² and The Segan Company,” said Kevin Beggs, president of television, programming and production, Lionsgate. “We’ve also enjoyed great support from ABC Family, and we are looking forward to another successful season of a series that we see as one of the staples of our primetime lineup of cable programming.”

For its second season WILDFIRE has increased its time period delivery double digits, versus year-ago in key demos. The series increased 50% in HH rating (1.2 vs. 0.8), 49% in total viewers (1,555 vs. 1,041), 25% with Adults 18-34 (0.5 vs. 0.4) and 55% with teens 12-17 (1.7 vs. 1.1).

ABC Family's highest rated original drama, returns with more secrets, seductions and suspense. Kris is now a local celebrity since riding Wildfire, but even her new-found fame can't keep her from thinking about Junior. She also has the support of the Ritter family, but realizes it takes a lot of work to maintain that trust, and one wrong move can cause her world to tumble.

LOS ANGELES, April 13 (UPI) -- Cable TV's ABC Family network has given a third-season, 13-episode nod to its teen drama, "Wildfire."

"Wildfire" averaged 1.6 million viewers in its second season, only a slight drop from the first season's 1.9 million average, Daily Variety noted.

The show centers on a young woman played by Genevieve Cortese who works with horses on a family-run ranch after serving time in a juvenile detention center.

Filming of the third season will take place during the summer in New Mexico.

Dennis Weaver, 'Gunsmoke' sidekick and detective in 'McCloud,' dies

LOS ANGELES – Dennis Weaver, the slow-witted deputy Chester Goode in the TV classic western “Gunsmoke” and the New Mexico deputy solving New York crime in “McCloud,” has died. The actor was 81.

Weaver died of complications from cancer Friday at his home in Ridgway, in southwestern Colorado, his publicist Julian Myers said.

Weaver was a struggling actor in Hollywood in 1955, earning $60 a week delivering flowers when he was offered $300 a week for a role in a new CBS television series, “Gunsmoke.” By the end of his nine years with “Gunsmoke,” he was earning $9,000 a week.

When Weaver first auditioned for the series, he found the character of Chester “inane.” He wrote in his 2001 autobiography, “All the World's a Stage,” that he said to himself: “With all my Actors Studio training, I'll correct this character by using my own experiences and drawing from myself.”

The result was a well-rounded character that appealed to audiences, especially with his drawling, “Mis-ter Dil-lon.”

At the end of seven hit seasons, Weaver sought other horizons. He announced his departure, but the failures of pilots for his own series caused him to return to “Gunsmoke” on a limited basis for two more years. The role brought him an Emmy in the 1958-59 season.

In 1966, Weaver starred with a 600-pound black bear in “Gentle Ben,” about a family that adopts a bear as a pet. The series was well-received, but after two seasons, CBS decided it needed more adult entertainment and cancelled it.

Next came the character Sam McCloud, which Weaver called “the most satisfying role of my career.”

The “McCloud” series, 1970-1977, juxtaposed a no-nonsense lawman from Taos, N.M., onto the crime-ridden streets of New York City. His wild-west tactics, such as riding his horse through Manhattan traffic, drove local policemen crazy, but he always solved the case.

He appeared in several movies, including “Touch of Evil,” “Ten Wanted Men,” “Gentle Giant,” “Seven Angry Men,” “Dragnet,” “Way ... Way Out” and “The Bridges at Toko-Ri.”

Weaver also was an activist for protecting the environment and combating world hunger.

He served as president of Love Is Feeding Everyone (LIFE), which fed 150,000 needy people a week in Los Angeles County. He founded the Institute of Ecolonomics, which sought solutions to economic and environmental problems. He spoke at the United Nations and Congress, as well as to college students and school children about fighting pollution and starvation.

“Earthship” was the most visible of Weaver's crusades. He and his wife Gerry built a solar-powered Colorado home out of recycled tires and cans. The thick walls helped keep the inside temperature even year around.

“When the garbage man comes,” Jay Leno once quipped, “how does he know where the garbage begins and the house ends?”

Weaver responded: “If we get into the mindset of saving rather than wasting and utilizing other materials, we can save the Earth.”

The tall, slender actor came by his Midwestern twang naturally. He was born June 4, 1924, in Joplin, Mo., where he excelled in high school drama and athletics. After Navy service in World War II, he enrolled at the University of Oklahoma and qualified for the Olympic decathlon.

He studied at the Actors Studio in New York and appeared in “A Streetcar Named Desire” opposite Shelley Winters and toured in “Come Back, Little Sheba” with Shirley Booth.

Universal Studio signed Weaver to a contract in 1952 but found little work for him. He freelanced in features and television until he landed “Gunsmoke.”

Weaver appeared in dozens of TV movies, the most notable being the 1971 “Duel.” It was a bravura performance for both fledgling director Steven Spielberg and Weaver, who played a driver menaced by a large truck that followed him down a mountain road. The film was released in theaters in 1983, after Spielberg had become director of huge moneymakers.

Weaver's other TV series include “Kentucky Jones,” “Emerald Point N.A.S.,” “Stone,” “Buck James” and “Wildfire.” From 1973 to 1975, he served as president of the Screen Actors Guild.

Weaver is survived by his wife; sons Rick, Robby and Rusty; and three grandchildren.

ABC Family's first original scripted drama WILDFIRE heated-up ratings on ABC Family with its second season premiere Monday, Jan. 2, (8:00 PM – 9:00 PM), delivering over 2.3 million total viewers and outperforming any season premiere in the history of the channel. The series also outdelivered its first season premiere by double digits in all key demos up 12% in HH (1.9 vs. 1.7), 19% in total viewers (2,338 vs. 1,968) and 29% with Adults 18-34 and 18-49 (0.9 vs. 0.7).
"It's incredibly rewarding to know the fans were as excited about the return of 'Wildfire' as we were," said Paul Lee, president, ABC Family. "And the fact that we brought in so many viewers is a testament to how good the show is. We love it that ABC Family is becoming a destination for originals of the highest quality."

"The scene I just shot, I had to lead this enormous horse out and do a scene with Greg," Visitor says. "And this horse was basically dissing me by trying to use me as a scratching post. And I had to understand that and know that I say, 'Hey. I invade your space, you don't invade mine.' And there's this whole psychological thing going on with the horse as I'm doing a scene. So I know a lot more about horses than I did before the show, that's for sure."

Serano, however, had far less experience with horses, but is determined to learn as he goes. "The research I did was to find out breeds of horses, to know by looking at them what type of horse it was; what makes a Thoroughbred a Thoroughbred, a quarter horse a quarter horse -- that kind of stuff," he says. "But the other thing is being comfortable, you either are or you aren't. It's kind of like people who have fears of things and other people just don't. From the very beginning, I was wary -- I knew that they're skittish animals but at the same time, I wasn't fearful."

Of the three of them, Cortese felt the most at home. "My mom has horses," she says, "so I grew up around them and I'm very comfortable with them. I grew up basically just kind of winging it and riding bareback -- Western saddle and stuff like that. It was much more casual, but I'm very comfortable and I grew up around them. But I've never raced them. I mean, I've gotten in trouble when I've raced them across the golf course, but that's about it."

Public Memorial For Michael Piller

A public memorial service will be held to remember Michael Piller, best known as a producer and writer for Star Trek. As announced by the Piller family, the service will take place Sunday, November 13, at 1:15 p.m. at Temple Israel of Hollywood in Los Angeles, California, according to TrekWeb.

Valet parking will be available. A reception will follow the service in the same building. The family requests that donations be made in Michael Piller's honor to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, his alma mater.

It is with great saddness that this site reports the loss of Michael Pillar. He created The Dead Zone and Wildfire among a host of other shows.

Michael Piller, who served as an executive producer for the Star Trek shows "The Next Generation," "Deep Space Nine" and "Voyager," passed away early Tuesday, November 1, according to TrekWeb.

Piller, who is survived by his wife Sandra, daughter Brent and son Shawn, died at his Los Angeles home after a long battle with cancer of the head and neck. He was 57.

In 1999, Piller launched Piller2 Inc., with his son Shawn. They developed properties including "The Dead Zone," seen on the USA Network, and the ABC Family Channel show, "Wildfire."

The Observer-Online's Rio Ranchero has an article on Season 2's filming.

Although Country Club Plaza on Southern Boulevard may have looked like it was the scene of a carnival or RV convention Wednesday, in effect it was the staging area for the filming of a scene for 'Wildfire.'

The ABC Family Channel's original-scripted drama, which filmed its first season at the old Fulcrum Building in Rio Rancho (ranch interiors) and Algodones (ranch exteriors), was shooting a scene at the Pasta House, a popular eatery in the City of Vision.

Lion's Gate Television is producing the series; the second season will begin in March.

The production company is using the old Fulcrum building in northern Rio Rancho, which was the headquarters and site for a few interior shots on 'Ghosts of Mars' several years ago.

Within that huge warehouse are several rooms, including the lavishly appointed living room of the Ritters. It was modeled after the room at Al Unser Junior's former residence on Rio Grande Boulevard, where the pilot was shot.

Sypek, who portrays Junior Davis, a friend of Alberti's character, Matt Ritter, could be seen outside the Fulcrum building on a hot afternoon recently, when filming for the sixth episode was taking place. Sypek was trying on Western-style shirts for his role.

He was happy to talk about his fledgling career.

"When I was real young I wanted to play baseball. I really loved playing center field, but that was never anything I was really ever that good at," he recalled. "I played up until I was in ninth grade.

Sypek started acting when he was in sixth grade.

"I started doing plays. It was something that I liked. I was really shy as a kid," he said. Raised in Massachusetts, he graduated from a film school at Boston University and moved to Los Angeles last August.

"I just kept going through auditions. I was testing with the network against Micah (Alberti) for the same role," he said. "I didn't get cast; they told me I didn't get the role, but told me to come back a few days later and check out the role of Junior. I read the script, I went in and tested - I read for the producers for Junior - and that night they called me and asked if I would do it."

Best know for his role on the WB's show "One Tree Hill" as professor Andy Hargrove,

will appear as sports agent Kerry Connelly on the ABC Family show Wildfire. He started filming his first episode - which is also the first episode of the second season - this week in New Mexico. Kerry Connelly shows an interest in representing the lead character Kris Furillo (Genevieve Cortese) and will be a recurring character. The new episodes are expected to start airing in January 2006.

Even if you're not watching the ABC Family TV show "Wildfire," plenty of people are.
The show— filmed in Algodones and Rio Rancho— saw higher ratings than any previous ABC Family scripted drama and has been picked up for a second season, said Paul Lee, ABC Family president.
The show's first 13 episodes were filmed during the past 10 months and shooting wrapped earlier this week.
But the big news for the cast, many of whom are doing their first TV series, was that ABC Family— Comcast channel 35— ordered 35 more episodes of the teen drama.
ABC Family said about 2 million watch the show, which has been called " 'The O.C.' on Horseback," weekly.
For the state, it's also a good deal.
"They spent 18 million bucks to produce it. That translates ... to $53 million to Rio Rancho, Algodones and Bernalillo," using an economic multiplier, said Eric Witt, director of legislative and political affairs for Gov. Bill Richardson.

A total of 13 one-hour episodes will be produced for the second season order with production set to begin this fall in New Mexico. The drama, produced by Lions Gate Television in association with Piller² and The Segan Company, centers on the struggles of a young woman (played by newcomer Genevieve Cortese) to turn her life around. The series also stars veteran actor Dennis Weaver ("McCloud"), Greg Serano (“Kingpin”), Nana Visitor (“Star Trek: Deep Space Nine”), Micah Alberti ("All My Children"), Andrew Hoeft, James Read, Ryan Sypek and Nicole Tubiola.

Season-to-date, WILDFIRE has increased its time period delivery double and triple digits, versus year-ago in all key demos. The series increased 100% in HH rating (1.6 vs. 0.8), 96% in total viewers (1,935,000 vs. 986,000), 75% with Adults 18-34 (0.7 vs. 0.4), 50% with Adults 18-49 (0.6 vs. 0.4), and 167% with teens 12-17 (2.4 vs. 0.9).

WILDFIRE follows eighteen-year-old Kris Furillo (Cortese) who, after serving time at a juvenile detention center, is given the opportunity to start a new life. RIO RANCHO, N.M. (AP) - The ABC Family cable network has picked up a television show shot in Sandoval County.

The network picked up “Wildfire” for eleven more episodes, meaning production will run through at least August.

“Wildfire” is produced by Lions Gate Television.

Filming probably will be done in the Algodones area, but production offices will be located in Rio Rancho.

The show is expected to employ about 120 New Mexicans.

It centers around a troubled teenage girl who starts a new life on a horse farm.

It stars longtime New Mexico resident Dennis Weaver and Nana Visitor, formerly of “Star Trek: Deep Space Nine.”

ABC Family has greenlit its second scripted drama, "Wildfire." Cabler ordered production on 11 one-hour episodes in addition to the two-hour pilot, which will serve as the premiere, from Lions Gate TV.

"Wildfire" revolves around 18-year-old Kris (Genevieve Cortese), a troubled teen who attempts to set her life straight when she finds work on the ranch of her foster family.

Project had previously been developed at the WB as a potential series but was reworked into a two-hour movie after moving to ABC Family (Daily Variety, Oct. 13). Execs changed their minds after screening the finished product.

Weekly series will bow with the two-hour telepic June 20.

Lions Gate TV will produce the show, with Michael Piller and Lloyd Segan ("The Dead Zone") exec producing. Michael and Shawn Piller wrote the pilot script directed by Steve Miner.

Since his arrival last April, ABC Family topper Paul Lee has been making a big push into the scripted arena, focusing on shows that embrace the diversity and dysfunction of modern families. Last month (Daily Variety, Feb. 8), he commissioned the cabler's first original drama, "Beautiful People," from Michael Rauch (CBS' "Love Monkey") and Paul Stupin ("Dawson's Creek").

Execs hope "Wildfire" and "Beautiful People" capitalize on the loyal following of off-net hours "Gilmore Girls" and "Smallville." "Gilmore" averages 1.3 million viewers in its weekday airings and has scored some of ABC Family's best 18-49 numbers.
